Strategic Sourcing and Commercial Management
The Spoil Ballast Management Wagon was to increase excavated waste material from ballast cleaning operation for disposal off-site. The increase in capacity was to support the maintenance of below rail target so increase haulage through-puts could be achieved. The services required extensive strategic global sourcing activities to identify credible alternative supply sources with a total cost of ownership exercise to understand the viability of different equipment suppliers and commercial risks.
The exercise comprised of detailed analysis and audits, tendering and market engagement to provide stakeholders with an informed decision for a preferred option. The project was delivered in challenging time frames with a number of commercial improvements from the selected supplier that increased the value proposition to maintenance operations and achieve organisational and client’s strategic objectives.
